What Causes Blocked Drains

Top 3 Blockage Reasons

Bayside Plumbing

Blocked by Sanitary Waste

The number 1 cause for blocks in your drains are sanitary items. These all ‘join forces’ somewhere down your pipes and cause your pipes to stop flowing. When water stops flowing through the pipes then you’re in trouble. Sanitary items include but are not limited to:

  1. Tampons
  2. Pads
  3. Condoms
  4. Etc

To be fair, most of these items have clear warnings on them that state clearly: do not flush item down the toilet – place in the bin instead. So hey, laziness really does result in al your chickens coming home to roost – in the form of what will sometimes cost you over $1,200 (just to start). So do the right thing and teach your kids not to flush these items the toilet.

I get that sometimes it happens, and actually every now and then won’t matter. But if it’s all the time – that’s an issue.

Wear And Tear

It’s true. Even drains are susceptible to the unfortunate event of the time. Much like an old person’s body. Wear and tear unfortunately ends up affecting all drains – It’s just a matter of time.

Broken pipes can be a major issue if your chosen plumber is not experienced. Some plumbing companies advocate that you get a jackhammer and drill up your backyard! They do this in order to get to the pipes. Which is ridiculous. Advanced pipe-fitters know that broken drains can be fixed with a technique called re-lining which allows you to fix the busted pipes without any intrusive work. So be wary of a tradesman who is not up to speed with this technique.

Drains Blocked By Tree Roots

Tree roots are ‘the lesser of 3 evils’ in this specific scenario. Due to the fact that it is the easiest to get rid of. The tradesman that you have hired should be able to put a water blaster down your drain and easily blast away those tree roots. The water will then come bubbling up to the pipe – bringing what remains of those pesky tree roots with it.
